clean nightmare

So in lieu of the New Year and what that all entails I'm going to list a few resolutions that I would like to conquer in 2013 and continue them forever.

  • Finish things I start
This mainly pertains to gym stuff. Us girls are always wanting to start an ab this or clean eating that. Which I stick with for a couple of weeks but then just decide to not keep it going.
This also goes for my running training that I will need to start working on.
And finish the vitamins and supplements I'm always buying.
And teas. I'm the worst at never finishing those dang boxes.
  • Show the people I love how much they mean to me and how happy I am to have them in my life
  • Use my fancy blender more
  • Use my juicer more
  • Use my food dehydrator to good use for once
  • Read more. And maybe even actually read and not get the audio book version
I think I'll leave the list at that. There are the resolutions that I made last year that I will continue on to this year.
  • Learn more about myself
  • Say yes to opportunities that will help me with getting to know to me
Said opportunities in the past were mainly gym related but they have ventured on to other aspects of my life and I have welcomed them with smile.

With that all said you should see some difference in my postings.

With a group at Koda starting their Whole30 challenge I decided I would jump in on that. I don't really like to post on FB or really do anything on there but I will be keeping a daily tally of my nutrition and my training on here.

Yesterday
  • Cheese grits (I know, not paleo in the slightest)
  • Chicken salad and chipotle tomato soup and two cubes of cheese I sampled wondering the grocery store
  • Another chicken salad
I have story on this chicken salad I had at lunch. I got from whole foods. In the salad bar section they have what they call mock chicken. I love this chicken and I get it every time I get a salad. Well, since they stopped having tuna in the bar. My thoughts are thrown by the title. Is it chicken? I'm brought back to the show I loved to watch so much, Newlyweds with Jessica Simpson and her famous episode about the chicken of the sea. "I know it it's tuna but the can says it's chicken.." I feel just like that when I read this mock chicken. Tyler told me last night when I was telling him this story that I should just ask someone there but I feel silly asking that. The next time I go in I'll try to read the ingredient list and see if it is indeed chicken or fake chicken.

At Koda we did this clean ladder. 12 min AMRAP of 20 cleans at a set weight. Here is what I did:
  • 20 reps # 63
  • 20 reps # 73
  • 20 reps # 83
  • 6 reps # 103

Last meal of 2012

With all the craziness of New Years Eve. Where to eat, where to go out, what to wear, who to be with. The list could go on and on. This year I decided to do something different from what I've done before and stayed in and cooked our dinner. It turned out to be a pretty great idea. No fuss, no dressing up, and cheap drinks! Here are some shots of what was on the menu:

First up, barely buzzed cheese, which is super good and combines two of my favorite things into one, cheese and coffee. Next is goat cheese stuffed peppadew peppers with balsamic vinegar. I had these once at Macaroni Grill and had to figure out how to make these at home. Luckily our waiter was nice enough to help me out on what type of bread crumbs to use.

Second, tomato baked salmon with cheddar grits and prosciutto wrapped asparagus. It was supposed to be jalapeno cheddar grits but Tyler forgot to get them so we had to do without but they were still really good without the spice. I'd never cooked with prosciutto before and was a little nervous when we started cooking these that they weren't getting dark like they were in the picture I found online but they were really really really good. Dare I say maybe better than when I made bacon wrapped asparagus. The meat is so much thinner so it cooks faster allowing the asparagus to still have a bit of a crunch.

Our third act, cheesecake. I had made this before for Thanksgiving and everyone loved it. So I decided to make it again but this time I cut the sugar in half. As you can see I made a full batch so after we had our two pieces we took the rest to the party at Koda for everyone else to enjoy.

Bodyrock..er...ZWOW

So I woke up today too late to make it into Koda so I decided to do a zwow. This gal, I love this gal. Most of her workouts do not consist of much equipment which is good because I have none. She's always really positive and I like to hear her talk.

Fair warning if you click on this and get tempted to watch the video make sure the volume is down. Girl doing a wod - any music = sounds like a porn.

ZWOW #47 12 Minute Fat Burn Workout

My stupid computer decided it needed to buffer mid wod so I had to start my timer on my phone to complete the workout. All in all I did 7 rounds + 3 of the Ab splitter super girl push ups.

Peppermint brownie up!

Last night I went with a dear friend to the Thunder game against Dallas and what a game it was! Free food, free booze and later a dessert cart came by and I couldn't resist. Chocolate and peanut butter or chocolate and peppermint are equally my favorite chocolate combinations. Pictured below is a peppermint brownie a la mode and it was most delicious thing, I won't say ever because I know for a fact I have had much better deserts before. Just as the last quarter was about to end Dallas made a goal or made a basket, whatever and the game went into overtime. Luckily this meant I had more time to enjoy my desert and my beer. Not the best combo in the world but I wouldn't want to let either one go to waste. The whole game up until the 3rd quarter we were behind and then in overtime we barely got ahead in the last 2 minutes of the game. Lots and lots and lots of yelling and cheering and people dancing. I truly had a great time!

Trail run of my life

Last year I went for a night run on Christmas day in hopes that I would get to spend some of my Christmas with my boyfriend when he came back in town. The next day after breakfast and our gift exchange he broke up with me. I know horrible right?! After that I decided to make this year my year of self discovery. I essentially became a yes man or yes girl mind you. I was up for anything and just about everything. Starting with an olympic weightlifting meet where I lifted the same weight as girls literally less than half my age. Talk about embarrassing. Then came various crossfit competitions here and there. A 6 mile mud run with the girls in Dallas complete with a epic night that will forever be a great laugh and probably will never be topped. And  2 half marathons, one being the memorial marathon here in OKC and the napa to sonoma half in well, Napa California where we had another epic night after the run that will not be forgotten. I celebrated my last year in my twenties and made a few new friends and deepened existing relationships with others. In a nutshell my year has been a pretty good one despite the ups and major downs I went through.

So I got back home around 3 and since we had our first snow and I had new running stuff I decided to test it all out. I jogged over to bluff creek and hit the trails. My morning jacket in my ears, my run keeper app tracking the mileage, snow beneath my feet, not a soul in sight. I had the biggest smile on my face dodging branches and tree roots, navigating the quick ups and downs. I took several pictures but only this one below was saved. It doesn't look like it but its a pretty steep hill. I had to climb down and then crawl back up it. When I got to the bottom I took this shot. After I'd gone through two albums I looked around.....I was lost!!! I started freaking out, I turned around and started running. The run keeper chimed in, 50 minutes has elapsed. Oh my gosh! The sun was starting to go down. I knew I had at least 15 minutes until it really got dark. I did not plan for this. I had no light on me. I prayed for God to keep the hobos away and to be with me on my run so I don't freak out. I made my way back to the section that's behind my apartments. I'd give anything just to run home right there but there's a river dividing me from my house. As I ran past I thought, if I was in a serious jam I would so cut through that river. Run keeper, 1 hour has elapsed....I'm freaking out man! My heart was racing. I started running, harder. Finally I got to a section of the trail I sorta knew. Just a few more minutes and I should be able to get out of this. Running running running and there, a clearing! I ran out, "Holy eff ( I said the real thing at the time) that was scary!" I pull out my earbud. "I'm never doing that again!" I started laughing at the thought of how scared I was getting lost in the mini woods on the corner of Hefner and Meridian. How odd. I send out a text that I did in fact get lost. All I wanted was a shower and a drink. I deserved it.

Melissa

We finally did Melissa's WOD again. I'm gonna start posting on here since we can't on the website any longer.

Melissa:
50 sit ups
farmer carry to hill #20
4 rounds of:
10 dumbbell thrusters #20
jog down hill
10 pushups
run uphill
farmer carry back to Koda
50 sit ups

Finished: 13:37

Here's what I posted last time we did it:

WOD: rx'd
finished: 12:50 and no air squats!
I'm pretty sure that was my time. Maybe it was 15:50...That sounds more like it.

I almost certain I finished in 15:50, this last time I did everything unbroken and I ran pretty hard and did the sit ups unbroken.

Once again

So once again I kinda forgot about my little interwebs space. I've been working more at the gym with news letters and things. I'm getting better at using the website and creating fun stuff. I'll have to post a link to the last one we did. With the end of the year coming soon I'm starting to look back at all the things I've ventured out on and the new friends I've made and the new interests I've dove into and the new person I've become.
I said that 2012 would be the year of getting out there. And looking back I think I've done just that but I don't think I'm done just yet. I think this mantra is going to roll over into 2013. There's a lot and not a lot that you've missed since the last post so I'm just going to start back up on what's going on in my present times.
Koda wise we just finished our 1RM thruster regime. I started out at 123. I have yet to go in and find what my new 1RM is. The cycle before that was back squat. I started at 188 and by the end my new 1RM was 203!
Run wise I haven't been doing much. I've only went and ran once but I think that will be changing in the near future. The memorial marathon has already opened their registration and I need to sign up for that again. I think I'm going to actually train for this one and I'm wanting to start before the new year. I think I'll mark my calendar to start on November 1st.
School wise...well. I've kinda forgot about school. Horrible, I know. I need to get back on that. It's just that things have been a little hectic and I've had to keep pushing it back. I'll get to it soon enough.
OH and emeals came out with an actual paleo plan. I got my first weekly menu yesterday so when I start cooking I'll have to post on those too.
Stay tuned...
